- Call to Register for the Heart of England Swim 2011 -
With a few weeks to go, swimmers across the Midlands have been putting their hearts into preparing for the British Heart Foundation's (BHF) Heart of England Swim at Blithfield Reservoir near Abbots Bromley. The annual event, which launched last year, takes place on Sunday, 9th July.
The one mile swim offers participants an exciting challenge of swimming in the great outdoors. People can soak up the beauty and freedom of swimming outside, with hundreds of other swimmers.
It is hoped over 400 swimmers will be attracted to the South Staffs Water owned Blithfield Reservoir next month – in an attempt to raise as much money as possible to help beat heart disease. The event starts at 10am, with registration from 8am. Entry costs £10 or £15 if you choose to register on the day.
As the nation's heart charity, the BHF cares for heart patients, funds research and saves lives every day. The BHF's information on heart health changes people's lives – helping them keep their own hearts healthy. The charity campaigns to improve the lives of those living with heart disease now, and fights for a healthy heart future for everyone.
Despite major advances in heart research, education and care, there is still a huge amount to learn, and a lot of work to be done. Events like the Heart of England Swim raise vital funds that help BHF continue their life-saving and life-changing work.
Jemma Curran, Regional Events Organiser for the BHF said: "The BHF really needs the support of local people to take part in our swim around Blithfield Resevoir to help raise £25,000 to help us continue with our life-saving work."
Tim Fletcher, Blithfield Estate manager for SSW added: "We're delighted to once again be playing host to this event. We look forward to seeing lots of people there on the day – let’s hope it proves to be a huge success for this worthy cause."
For more information and to get involved please contact the BHF Events team on 0800 169 3672 or visit bhf.org.uk/heartofengland. Under 16-year-olds can enter, but must be accompanied by an adult and be a strong swimmer. Entry fees help towards the cost of running the event safely, but we need you to raise as much sponsorship as possible to help support our work. Keep working with BHF and together we will beat heart disease – for good.
