Anglers boost fight against cancer

Big hearted anglers have handed over £2,900 to a national cancer charity following a fun fly fishing match held at Blithfield Reservoir in Abbots Bromley – and with another match to go ahead later this month, the call has gone out for anglers to sign up to take part.

Cheques for the money raised from last year's event were recently handed to Cancer Research UK at the reservoir – with half going specifically for use on breast cancer research.

Over the last three years the annual event has raised over £6,000. With the next one due to go ahead on Saturday, May 14th, the challenge is now on to fill all 40 boats for this year's fundraiser to be held on the South Staffs Water owned reservoir.

The fly fishing event is organised by Steve Owen and on hand will be David Mullarkey of fishing tackle company, Mullarkey Direct, who will be presenting trophies. The match is open to all fly fishers; for more information, ring the reservoir office on: 01283 840284.
