Birdwatchers and wildlife lovers can now get a better view of the huge variety of birds that visit Blithfield Reservoir and the woodland estate on its banks, following the installation of new hides.
As part of a three year recreational facility improvement programme South Staffs Water, owner of the estate, has recently had sited a new hide at Blithe Bay on the eastern shore of the reservoir while a larger hide has replaced an older one in Stansley Wood, with the older hide being moved also to Blithe Bay. These particular hides are for use by West Midland Bird Club permit holders only.
Education and Recreation Manager for SSW, John Morrall commented: "Over the last few years the majority of old hides have been replaced or updated as part of a joint project between South Staffs Water and Natural England.
"In addition, with the replacement programme three brand new sites for hides were also created on the permissive walks around the northern section of the estate. These particular hides were sited with advice from the Blithfield Birders Group who represent the WMBC and have been supplemented with bird feeder stations. The stations attract many species of woodland birds and are regularly topped up by volunteers from the Blithfield Birders Group and the Company's staff.
This now means that the general public as well as members of the West Midland Bird Club have access to first class bird watching facilities.
